A cure to cabin fever!

For those of you looking to be more active this winter, the next couple of weeks have some great outdoor opportunities!

FEB 13, 11:00AM

The UW Running club is holding its 14th annual Valentine’s 5K this weekend. The run starts from UW Natatorium and runners can register as either individuals or a team (of 2). Pre-registration is $5, or $6 day of the event – the fee includes runner’s gloves (sweet!), race number and food and beverages. For those of you looking for something to do this weekend – it should be a great time! Registration starts at 9am at the Nat with the race starting at 11am. Go to http://running.rso.wisc.edu/Valentines5k/ for more details.

FEB 20, time TBD

Join some of your fellow La Folletters as we participate in the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. This annual event is the largest fundraiser for Special Olympics Wisconsin. Jumpers brave the cold and submerge themselves into the icy waters of Lake Monona to raise money for the cause. If you’re interested in the event go to http://www.specialolympicswisconsin.org and check it out! La Follette’s team name is Fighting Bobs.

Ice Skating/Cross-Country Skiing:

Take advantage of the great Madison parks system and go ice skating or cross-country skiing over the next couple of weeks. Both Tenney Park and Vilas Park have skate rentals available (as well as hockey cages and lights!) Elvers Park is doing cross-country skiing lessons (for those of us that may not be Wisconsin natives!) Check out http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/ for more information!

**I apologize for the delay in posting this and thus one event being over. – Sylvia
