Stata & SAS Classes Offered

One resource that I wasn’t aware of my first year, until much later in the semester, is the courses offered by the Social Science Computing Cooperative (SSCC). All La Follette students have access to these courses and they can be hugely beneficial in developing a base understanding of the commonly-used statistical programs, such as SAS and Stata. In fact, in PA 818, some assignments must be done in Stata. These classes are very helpful in understanding the basics of how to complete these assignments. There being said, the courses I recommend registering for are:

Topic Date Time Room Instructor
SAS Intro and Basic Stats 9/20 2:00 – 4:00 2470 Hemken
Stata for Researchers 9/20, 9/22, 9/27,
9/29, 10/4
10:00 – 11:15 3218 Dimond
SAS Creating New Variables 9/21 2:00 – 4:00 2470 Hemken
SAS Subsets & Merges 9/22 2:00 – 4:00 2470 Hemken
SAS Data Input 9/23 2:00 – 4:00 2470 Hemken
SAS Graphs 9/24 2:00 – 4:00 2470 Hemken
Stata: Programming 10/6 10:00 – 11:15 3218 Dimond

I have taken all of the classes I recommend here. That doesn’t mean that other courses won’t be valuable in the work you are doing or want to do, so make sure you check out all the offerings. Also, make sure you go to the website and register!

Sylvia Fredericks loves taking additional classes (seriously!)
