This weekend I Biked the Barns with La Follette alum Becky McAtee and Ian Ritz. It was a great time and a great fundraiser for the Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition. A number of current La Follette students volunteered at the event. La Follette student Jonny Hunter’s catering business, The Underground Food Collective, provided much of the food for the event.
Madison A to Z posted an excellent review of the food side of Bike the Barns (and yeah, those last 11 miles were rough). As for the biking side, I had a great time and it was fun to break my one day miles-ridden record. But honestly, the ride was like biking the Elroy-Sparta trail on the rode instead of on the trail. And don’t get me wrong, I loved biking Elroy-Sparta, but the experience just wasn’t really unique. I am hoping next year to bike the Door County Century ride (which is the same weekend), because I hear Door County is amazing.
I highly recommend participating in Bike the Barns in the future if you are an avid cyclist. It is a fun ride, a great community event, and a great way to get to know more of Wisconsin.
