Joe Glass, Associate Professor of Social Work, University of Wisconsin-Madison will present his talk “Poverty and Racial/Ethnic Disparities in the Social Consequences of Alcohol Use”.

Lisa Dally of the Wisconsin Department of Administration will share her knowledge on how to find and apply for jobs and internships in state agencies (and not just in Wisconsin). Refresehments will be served.

Jason Fletcher, Associate Professor, La Follette School of Public Affairs will present his talk “Childhood Environments and Adult Health”. He will present his research on estimating the impacts of neighborhoods and environments on adult health outcomes in efforts to inform policies targeted towards child health.

’95 La Follette Alum Tom Eggert will discuss his work with Wisconsin Microfinance, a non-profit he founded to help people in Haiti recover from the 2010 earthquake. He will discuss private sector investment in the developing world with micro loans and also some of the unwanted impacts of his work.

La Follette Professor and IRP Director Timothy Smeading will present his lecture “Connecting Inequality and Intergenerational Mobility: Looking Ahead, Not Behind”. He will present is recent work on studies of generational mobility, income inequality, and wealth and consumption.

GAO Chicago Assistant Director Paul Schmidt will provide information on the Chicago GAO, the GAO Analyst position, and answer any questions you may have.

 

5. LSSA Project Linus Blanket-Making Event

Friday, February 28th, 3:30pm, 8417 Social Science

 

Project Linus is an organization that distributes handmade blankets to sick and traumatized children. Come help your fellow Bobs make no-sew fleece blankets to donate. If you’ve never made this type of blanket before, no worries- we will be cutting the edges of the fleece into fringe and tying it in knots. Join LSSA for the first site visit of the Spring Semester! The Fiscal Bureau has hired many La Follette Students in the past. The visit will give students an opportunity to learn more about the LFB, network with current employees, and ask any questions they may have.
